THE WORLD IS MINE

THE WORLD IS MINE

Today, upon a bus, I saw a very beautiful woman
And wished I were as beautiful.
When suddenly she rose to leave,
I saw her hobble down the aisle.
She had one leg and wore a crutch.
But as she passed, she passed a smile.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have two legs; the world is mine.

I stopped to buy some candy.
The lad who sold it had such charm.
I talked with him, he seemed so glad.
If I were late, it'd do no harm.
And as I left, he said to me,
"I thank you,
you've been so kind.
It's nice to talk with folks like you.
You see," he said, "I'm blind."
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have two eyes; the world is mine.

Later while walking down the street,
I saw a child I knew.
He stood and watched the others play,
but he did not know what to do.
I stopped a moment and then I said,
"Why don't you join them dear?"
He looked ahead without a word.
I forgot, he couldn't hear.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have two ears; the world is mine.

With feet to take me where I'd go..
With eyes to see the sunset's glow.
With ears to hear what I'd know.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I've been blessed indeed, the world is mine.

If this poem makes you feel thankful,
just forward it to your friends.
After all, it's just a simple reminder
that we have so much to be thankful for!

Give the gift of love.
It never comes back empty !
The cup of suffering is not the same size
for everyone!

Live simply. Love generously.
Care deeply. Speak kindly.
Leave the rest to God.

Hanuman Jayanti 25th of April 2013

Hanuman Jayanti 2013

Hanuman Jayanti 2013 Date falls on Thursday, 25th of April, Chaitra Shukla Paksha’s Poornima.
Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman, also known as Bajrangbali, is considered as the greatest devotee of Lord Rama according to Hindu mythology. It is celebrated on the fourth full moon day in the month of Chaitra

Legend of Hanuman Jayanti

Hanuman (हनुमान्) is the son of Lord Pavana, the God of Wind. The legend goes that in his childhood, he assumed that the sun was a delicious fruit and tried to swallow it. Foreseeing danger Indra, the King of the Gods struck Hanuman with his thunderbolt and wounded him. In anger Lord Pavana went away with Hanuman to the nether region endangering the existence of all humans and gods. At length Brahma, the Lord of all cosmos appealed to Pavan to return to earth. To appease him, all the gods conferred great boons on Hanuman making him immortal and more powerful than any other being. Thus Hanuman is the embodiment of the powers of all gods.

Celebration and Ritual of Hanuman Jayanti

On the day of Hanuman Jayanti, people flock to temples and apply vermilion on the idol of Hanuman. They offer betel leaves to the Lord and observe fast. Then the worshipping of Lord Hanuman is performed and people apply vermilion on their forehead as a mark of devotion to Hanuman. Religious foods, coconut and flowers are distributed among people. Many devotees recite the Hanuman Chalisa which is a devotional song based on the accomplishments of Lord Hanuman.

Significance of Hanuman Jayanti

Lord Hanuman is the ardent devotee of Lord Rama. He is upheld as the model for human devotion to God. He is a celibate and is known by many names like Bajrang Bali, Pavan Putra, Mahavir and Maruti. Hanuman symbolizes strength and power and unparalleled selfless service and devotion to the almighty. He is an epitome of bachelorhood and Brahmacharya.

25th April 2013, Thursday is Sree Hanuman Jayanthi…. Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on full moon day during Chaitra month. Lord Hanuman, was born on this day .It is believed that Hanuman was born at Sunrise. On Hanuman Jayanti day temples start spiritual discourses at dawn before Sunrise and stop it after Sunrise. On this day Lord Hanuman is decorated with Betal leaves(vettila mala), Vada mala ,Butter and Sindhoor . Ardent devotees observe fast on this day. In the evening, Aarti is performed and the offerings are made. Religious foods, coconut and flowers are distributed among people. Many devotees recite the Hanuman Chalisa which is a devotional song based on the accomplishments of Lord Hanuman. The chanting of Hanuman Chalisa and the Hanuman Stotra makes Lord Hanuman happy. Depending upon the caliber of a devotee, the Chalisa is repeated several times. The recitation of Hanuman Arati, or Aarti Bajrangbali Ki, marks the end of the prayers. People who opt for observing vrat or upvaas on Hanuman Jayanti should keep it from sunrise to sunset. However, people who observe a partial fast consume fruits and milk. The fast is broken by offering puja in the evening or visiting a Hanuman Temple near by. However, there are devotees who end their fast only on the next day in the morning

Shri Hanuman is regarded as the God of power, strength and knowledge. He is known as the ‘Param Bhakt’ of lord Rama and is the incarnation of Lord Shiva. The philosophy of epic Ramayana is incomplete without the understanding of the unfathomable devotion of Lord Hanuman for Shri Rama. The supremacy possessed by him is very beautifully described in Ramayana, during the Ramayana war of Lord Rama against the mighty Ravana. The Sundara Kanda, the fifth Kanda in the Ramayana, focuses mainly on the adventures of Hanuman. He is also known as Mahaveer Hanuman which means almighty. He is a celibate(Brahmachari) and is known by many names like Bajrang Bali, Pavan Putra, Mahavir and Maruti. Hanuman Swami symbolizes strength and power and unparalleled selfless service and devotion to the almighty. He is an epitome of bachelorhood and Brahmacharya..

There is no village or town in Bharat without a temple dedicated to Hanuman. Hanuman ji is invincible and blessed to be immortal. He is upheld as the model for human devotion to God. He is a celibate(Brahmachari) and is known by many names like Bajrang Bali, Pavan Putra, Mahavir and Maruti. Hanuman Swami symbolizes strength and power and unparalleled selfless service and devotion to the almighty. He is an epitome of bachelorhood and Brahmacharya…….Aaaanjaneeya Swami ki Jay …………. ….

Who was Lord Hanumans son?
As per Ramcharit Manas, Lord Hanuman had gone to Lanka in search of Goddess Sita. He was caught there by Meghnadh and was presented before
Raavan in his palace. That time Raavan had ordered to burn Lord
Hanumans tail and with his burning tail he fired the entire Lanka.
However, Lord Hanuman was in deep pain because of his burnt tail. For
some relief, he dipped his tail in the ocean. That time he was sweating
and a drop of his sweat fell into the mouth of the fish in the ocean.
After drinking Lord Hanumans sweat, the fish got pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy. His name was Makardhwaj.

Earth Day 2013

What is Earth Day?

Founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day is aday intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for our natural environment. The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, was a US centric event but today Earth Day is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year.

The mission is to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide, and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable environment.

On Earth Day’s 40th anniversary in 2010, over a billion people participated in environmental activities and events in 190 countries.

Earth Day is a celebration of our environment and a day to reflect on our individual impact on the world around us.  We all hear the messages: Replacing old light bulbs to CFL’s or LED bulbs can save huge amounts of energy let alone money and so on and so on.  But how many of us are really taking action?
Many folks think that in order to make a difference it will cost them a ton of money or they will have to settle for a lesser quality product or the effort they put in won’t make much of a difference.  That’s simply not true anymore.
What is true is that there are so many simple actions and options that we can each take action on today to help us conserve an incredible amount of energy use (and save us all money), lessen our carbon footprint and protect the world that we have inherited for our children and our grandchildren.
Simple and affordable projects like changing out those old light bulbs for the newer, more efficient  LED bulbs or composting in your garden or conserving water by making your toilet a dual-flush toilet are all projects that make an instant impact on our world.
This year, Earth Day turns 42 years old.  It all started back in 1970 with a call from United States Senator Gaylord Nelson to the nation to come together to protect our world and environment. Since that first Earth Day back on April 22, 1970, many things have changed for our environment for better and worse.

Today is Earth Day - Hindu Religion and Nature--

A Hindu worships nature not out of fear but by realizing each living being is a representation of the Supreme Soul or God. Hindus worship and feed cows, ants, rats, bull, snakes…we find divinity in rivers, mountains, trees…Each and every aspect of Nature is Holy for a Hindu.

In the tenth chapter of Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says
Now I will declare to you My Divine glories, immanent, in their prominence; O best of the Kurus, there is no end to the details of My extent.

I am the Self, O Gudakesha, seated in the hearts of all beings; I am the Beginning, the Middle and also the End of all beings.
Among the trees, I am the holy banyan tree (the Ashwattha tree – Pipal ),

Among the cows, I am the wish giving Kama Dhenu

And among the water bodies, I am the sea

And among the immovable, I am the Himalayas

Among the peaks, I am the divine Meru

Among the shining objects, I am the Sun God

And among the stars, I am the moon

Among those who move fast, I am the wind

And among the rivers, I am the Ganga

And among the seasons, I am the flowering spring

Among the animals, I am the lion,

And among the birds, I am the eagle.

Among the fishes I am the Shark.

Among the great elephants, I am Airavatha
,
And I am Vasuki among serpents,

And whatsoever is the seed of all beings, that also am I, O Arjuna; there is no being, whether moving, or unmoving, that can exist without Me.

But is an average Hindu protecting Nature or at least not destroying it. Sadly, majority of the Hindus only remembers trees, animals, mountains and other aspects of nature only during festivals and auspicious days.

Even some of the Hindu festivals which were deeply rooted in Nature have been converted into pollution festivals by crass commercialization.

River Ganga is slowly dying; Ganesh Chaturthi is in news for polluting water bodies; important Hindu temple towns are highly polluted, not a single river associated with Hinduism is pollution free, tigers and numerous other animals that are constantly depicted with Hindu Gods and Goddesses are facing extinction….it is a long list.

We often find blame excuses to escape from responsibility or play the blame game. There are a lot of things an individual can do.

When reading Hindu scriptures we realize that there was period when Nature was without human beings and there are indications in many scriptures that in future too there can be a period without Human Beings – the Supreme Soul appears to annihilate that which is straying from the path of Dharma. By destroying Nature and behaving as if we are above Nature we are straying from the path of Dharma and behaving like the demons in the holy books and inviting the wrath of the Supreme Being.

Nature will survive even after human beings are gone. Man needs to change, if he needs to survive in Nature or Nature will find ways to eliminate Human Being
s.
