Raksha bandhan is the festival of brother and sister,  of strong feeling of love and care between them;  tied with the sheer thread of silk. Celebrate the festivity and send this page to your brother or sister to show your affection, to say them you care.  This is the next best thing to celebrate rakhi together personally There’s no other love like the love for a brother.  There’s no other love like the love from a brother. Any Indian festival is incomplete without the typical Indian festivities,  the gatherings, celebrations, exchange of sweets and gifts, lots of noise, singing and dancing. Festivals are the celebration of togetherness the celebrations of being on of the family. Festival of Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan is one such major occasion. It is the celebration of brothers and sisters.  It is one festival that primarily belongs to the  North and Western regions of India but celebrated throughout the country with the same verve.  Regional celebrations may be different  but Raksha bandhan has become an integral part of those customs As per the traditions, the sister on this day prepares the pooja thali with diya, roli, chawal and rakhis. She worships the deities, ties Rakhi to the brother(s) and wishes for their well being.  The brother in turn acknowledges the love with a promise to be by the sisters’ side through the thick and thin and gives her a token gift. The festival has been celebrated in the same way with the same traditions for centuries.  Only the means have changed with the changing lifestyles. This too to make the celebrations more elaborate. This is the day that still pulls the siblings together. The increasing physical distances evoke the desire to be together even more. They try to reach out to each other on the Raksha Bandhan day.  The joyous meeting, the rare family get-together,  that erstwhile feeling of brotherhood and  sisterhood calls for a massive celebration.  The sisters tie that thread of love to their brothers amongst chanting of mantras,  put roli and rice on his forehead and pray for his well being. She bestows him with gifts and blessings.  The brother also wishes her a good life and pledges to take care of her. He gives her a return gift. The gift is the physical acceptance of her love, reminder of their togetherness and a symbol of his pledge. The legends and the reference in  history repeated, the significance of the festival is emphasized. Well that is kind of an end to the rituals  but the celebrations actually start after that. For the parents, it is a family reunion.  Tasty dishes, wonderful sweets,  exchange of gifts and sharing of past experiences.   Apni bahna ke liye ham bhi kuch bol dete hai, Wo murat hai, wo bholi se surat meri bahna hai, Dur sahi par, na aa paye sahi Fir bhi lakhon me meri bahna hai Umar bhar rakhi par intjaar hame rahna hai.. This festival is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Shravan in the Hindu calendar (around month of August). This is the most important festival for the coastal region as after the rainy season,the new season for fishing starts on this day. Fishermen and women offer coconuts to the sea and ask for peaceful season and pray the sea to remain calm. The same day is celebrated as Rakhi Poornima to commemorate the abiding ties between brother and sister. Narali Bhaat (sweet rice with coconut) is the main dish on this day.Deshastha Brahmin men change their sacred thread (janve in Marathi) on this day.

Coconut Day festival or Narali Purnima takes place in Maharasthra & Kerala. It is celebrated mostly by the fishing community who offer their prayers for their safety to the sun-god Varuna.

On the full moon day of Sravan is celebrated the Narli Purnima to appease the fury of the Sea-god Narli Purnima. It also marks the end of monsoon, and is primarily observed by sailors, fishermen and others living in the coastal areas of South India. They offer coconut to the sea on this occasion. If the sea happens to be far away, people go to some nearby tank, pool, river or some other source of water and offer coconut.A coconut has three eyes. It is said to represent Lord Shiva, the three eyed God. Coconut is considered to be an auspicious offering to Gods. A coconut is broken in front of the deities before taking up a new venture to seek blessings and on successful comlition for thanks giving. Coconut is important for all religious occasions. Thus coconut is considered to be an ideal offering to the Sea God as well.

Fishermen and fishing community in Maharashtra celebrates the Nariyal Purnima or the Coconut Festival in a jubilant manner. On the day of Narial Festival, fishermen of Maharashtra worship Samudra (Sea God) and Varuna Deva (Rain God). Coconuts are offered to the Sea God. After the Puja, fishing is started. They perform the pooja to the Sea God to protect them from natural calamities. Narali Poornima marks the monsoon season and represents the beginning of new fishing period.

Pieces of coconut and coconut are distributed as 'prasad'. Coconut rice is the main dish on this day

Problems faced by Children in today's world

Mom I don't feel like going to school today! My class teacher is punishing me in front of my classmates! - Jenni complained Dad I don't like the color of the dress which you had bought for me! Yack even a beggar would not like this color! why did you purchase this one? - Timothy frowned   Mom what is this you have prepared for lunch? This one is tasting putrid. - Trisha shook her head.  Jenni, Jemmy, Allan, Danny, Timothy, Trisha, Treya, Caren, Tanya, Tina, and you kids may be shouting like the above kids at home. Fighting with your parents for every trivial things. Do you know there are children in this world who are forbidden this freedom that you are enjoying in this world. Some of the common problems faced by the children of your age are given below:   Literacy Forbidden: Children are frequently denied their right to an education on equal terms with their peers. They are denied their right based on various factors.  Children in conflict zones face tremendous dangers to reach schools in place where tension prevails. Due to family situations, there are many children dropped out of the school in their early ages.  Worldwide children are harassed as they either belong to different social group or differ in color or belong to different religion and thus are undermined their opportunities to learn. It causes them to drop out of schools resulting in psychological trauma, physical and metal stress and even to death.  Terrorism: Terrorist groups recruit and some time compel children to fight for their cause as Child Soldiers. This is a common practice in some of the countries in the world. They are either abducted or forced to join as soldiers. Children from the age group of 8-18 are recruited for this. In some countries children in the age group of 7 - 12 are trained as Paramilitaries.   Malnutrition: Children of Third world countries are greatly affected by famine. Most of them suffer from Malnutrition and some are affected to the extreme level of starvation to death. Due to the economic conditions of these countries the availability of food is very less. Children in some of the under developed countries are attacked by chronic diseases and die due to lack of proper medical facilities to treat them.   Refugee and Migrant: Children who migrate along due to war or famine are prone to the risk of abuse when they are separated from their parents and caregivers. When they are left unsecured, they can't get food, shelter and clothes. They are branded as "ORPHANS" and their future turns out to be horrible.   Child Labour: Children are pledged for some amount to reduce the financial burden in some families. When their parents fail to clear the debts, the owners prison the children and put them as child labourers in their factories, shops or fields.   In some families children are sent to work to earn the bread of the day for the family. Normally children are recruited everywhere. Be it a mill, newspaper distribution, mines, factories, hotels, etc., Some children are forced to rag picking, begging and smuggling.   There is no product that has not been scented by the sweat of a child labourer. Such kind of problems attack the normal physical, intellectual, emotional and moral development of a child. Children who are in the growing process can permanently distort or disable their bodies when they carry heavy stress and loads of suffering on them. Children are less resistant to diseases and suffer the most.  Those children who suffer in their childhood are prone to become rogues, terrorists, thieves and anti-social elements. A child instead of becoming a good youth and further an element of making a good society takes the shape of the above.   But you children, how much more are you privileged and blessed than the children who are caught in the above problems. You have good parents who give us good food, colorful clothes, beautiful home, high-class education, modern toys, and what not. Are we truthful to the Almighty God who provides everything to us through our parents?    He says, "I will bless you and you shall be a blessing". Yes, God has blessed us because He wants us to bless others. We are under the wings of the Almighty, so we are safe and sound. But let us think about the children who have never tasted happiness in their life in this world. Let us not grumble ourselves that we are forbidden with some trivial things for which we are adamant. Next time when you see any children suffering don't show faces but show them your love and affection.   Let us understand the problems of the Children who suffer and let's uphold them in our prayers to turn their sufferings into joy. Our simple action could bring somewhere a change to somebody. Let's intercede for such kind of children to our Almighty God to make a better world tomorrow.
