Wishing You A Very Happy Teej Festival

TEEJ

The mother goddess, or the female energy, is also worshipped under the usual name of Parvati or Gauri.. One festival celebrated in Her name is called Gauri Tij, which falls on the third day of the waning moon, in the month of Vesakh. It is the first day according to the Sindhi calender of the second month of the year. On this day, married women worship Mahadev and Parvati in the early morning and then observe fast for the whole day.

TEEJRI

This takes place in the month of Shrawan, when married girls and women paint their hands and feet with Mehndi, go on a fast for the whole day, during which they play games, swing in Jhulas and sing lovable songs. In the night after making an offering to the moon, they break the fast.

The sindhi ladies’s observe Teejri for the well being of their husbands. This falls on the third day of the moonlit fortnight of the month of sravan. On the eve of this day,women apply mehendi on their hands. They wake before sunrise and eat something(Asur) . From then on they are not allowed to drink even water untill they have prayed to Teejri mata. Green gram is sprouted in a plate or obtained from a pandit and swaying of the teejri is done saying the following:-
TERI MERI GOWRI HIDONRAYMEH LODIYAH, BAMANIKI GOWRI HIDONRAYMEH LODIYAH,RANI PUJEH RAJAHSAH , AISAH PUJUE SUHAAGA BHAAGAH SAH.DUDHTEH PUTAH LAXMEIYA KEH X 3
A mixture of sugar and water is poured into the sprouted beans and the ladies drink a little of this mixture. From then on, they are allowed to drink water. In the evening after sunset a puja is done again and the pandit or his wife’s tells of the significance of this fast. Following this puja, they stop drinking water again till the sighting of the moon. Prasad is then distributed and the fast broken.
It is easy to regard this as a chauvinistic attitude emphasizing the importance of the husband. After all few pujas are done by husbands for the well being of their wives!
However, it is essential to look beyond the obvious. While the husband’s well being is considered central to the happiness of the family, it is the wife who plays the critical role behind the scenes, caring, nurturing and praying for them. These rituals recognize the strength of the woman and her inner commitment to family and happines

GaYatri Mantra Meaning :

GaYatri Mantra Meaning :

(This is known as “Gayatri Mantra”. It helps in early fulfillment of all desires of life. It resides in the category of Great Mantras in the Hindu Mythology. The use of a beaded garland of 108 beads, chanting three times a day (Morning, Noon and Evening) is favorable.)

The Gayatri Mantra can be Translated as:

||OM||
Para Brahman

|| BHUR ||
Bhu Loka (Physical Plane) - This refers to the five elements this body is made up of

|| BHUVA ||
Bhuva Loka (Middle Plane) - This refers to the power in man which animates the body. This is actually the Prana Sakthi

|| SVAHA ||
Swarga Loka (Heaven)

|| TAT ||
That, this refers to God, or Paramatma.

|| SAVITUR ||
That from which all is born

|| VARENYAM ||
Fit to be worshipped

|| BHARGO ||
The Radiance, the Spiritual Effulgence, the light that bestows wisdom.

|| DEVASYA ||
Divine Reality

|| DHEEMAHI ||
We Meditate

|| DHI YO ||
Buddhi, Intellect

|| YO ||
Which

|| NAH ||
Our

|| PRACHODAYAT ||

Enlighten.

The Gayatri Mantra may be translated as follows:

OM (OM) - We meditate (DHEEMAHI) upon the Spiritual Effulgence (BHARGO) of THAT Adorable Supreme Divine Reality (VARENYAM DEVASYA), the Source (SAVITUR) of the Physical (BHUR), the Astral (BHUVA), and the Heavenly (SVAHA) Spheres of Existence. May THAT (TAT) Supreme Divine Being enlighten (PRACHODAYAT) our (NAH) Intellect (DHIYO) (So that we may realise the Supreme Truth).

Sage Vishwamitra discovered the Gayatri Mantra. This mantra enabled the sage to use rare weapons, which bowed to his will, when this mantra was invoked with faith. Through the power he attained, this way he was able to create a counterpart of the cosmos. The Gayatri Mantra is addressed to the energy of the Sun - Surya. It is addressed to the Immanent and Transcendent Divinity. This mantra has infinite potentiality; it is a vibrant formula. It has immense powers, which are truly amazing, for the Sun is it's presiding Deity.

The Gayatri Mantra is enshrined in the Vedas, the most ancient Scriptures of Man. Gayatri is the Mother of the Vedas and Gayatri redeems the chanter of the Mantra. Ma Gayatri is present wherever the Mantra is chanted. Gayatri has three names - Gayatri, Saavitri and Saraswathi. These three are present in each one of us. Gayatri is the master of the senses, Saavitri is the master of Prana (Life Force). Saavitri signifies Truth. Saraswathi is the Presiding Deity of Speech (Vaak). Theses three represent purity of Thought, Word and Deed. One who practises the purity and harmony of Thought, Word and Deed will have Gayatri, Saavitri and Saraswathi in him.

|| The Gayatri Mantra Has Three Parts ||

1. "OM BHUR BHUVA SVAHA TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM BHARGO DEVASYA"

2. "DHEEMAHI"

3. "DHIYO YO NAH PRACHODAYAT"

These three parts refer to the three elements that figure in the adoration of the Lord - Praise, Meditation and Prayer. These Parts may be described as

Prayer to Savitha, The Divine is first praised

Meditation on Savitha, The Divine is then meditated upon with reverence

Prayer to Savitha.

An appeal is made to the Divine to awaken and strengthen our intellect, the discriminating faculty in us. The Gayatri Mantra is considered to be the Essence of the teachings of the Vedas, The Veda Sara. Chanting it fosters and sharpens the knowledge-yielding faculty in man, and one who chants it regularly with faith the mantra relieves him of diseases, wards off all misery and fulfils all the needs of man. It bestows all that is beneficial to the chanter. The Gayatri should not be chanted casually, as it give the chanter various kinds of power. This mantra should be chanted three times a day - Dawn, Noon and Dusk, although the mantra is not bound by these three time periods of the day. Remember it can be chanted anywhere and at any time. The chanter of Gayatri mantra should not treat it casually and his heart should be pure at all times. The Gayatri Mantra is an essential requisite for the young and students because it ensures bright and auspicious future for them. The chanter of mantra has sharper intellect, they become more zealous, more enthusiastic, and certainly become qualified to get better marks, ranks and first classes. Just as we take bath to cleanse our bodies, so also we should chant the Gayatri Mantra to purify our mind and Intellect.

The most recommended time for chanting the Gayatri are :

When we get up from bed in the morning

Before every meal

When we go to bed in the evening

After the Gayatri one should chant 'OM' and 'Shanti' Three times. The Gayatri Mantra protects the chanter wherever he may be.

The importance of the mantra are given as follows:

If Gayatri Mantra is not recited correctly it has opposite effect of enveloping the chanter in darkness. If it is chanted with Love, God will accept it.

Each word should be pronounced clearly and distinctly, without undue haste or hurry.

Gayatri is the very basis of Vedas. It is also called Veda Mata (Mother of the Vedas)

Gayatri is the mantra, which preserves, protects and rescues the chanter from mortality.

The Gayatri mantra is a Universal prayer, which asks for a clear Intellect so that the Truth may be reflected therein without distortion.

Men, Women of all climes and creed, can chant Gayatri Mantra.

The heart needs to be cleansed atleast three times a day with Gayatri.

The Gayatri Mantra is synonymous to the Divinity and therefore must be approached with humility, reverence, faith and love towards the Mantra.

Chanting with humility, reverence, faith and love is more important than mechanical repetition while the mind wanders.

Full faith in the power and potency of the Gayatri Mantra will be generated only when the seeker has developed requisite degree of enthusiasm, reverence and love towards the Mantra.

The more one chants the Mantra, the greater benefit the chanter gets.

7 Secrets of Highly Happy Children

7 Secrets of Highly Happy Children

 When it comes to kids, people just don't think about happiness enough these days. They think about success. They think in comparisons. They think about milestones, graduations and shiny trophies. (The ones they earned, of course. Because, you know, not everyone deserves a trophy these days).
They think about things like redshirting a potential Kindergartener -- not so that he will be happy, but so that he will have an advantage on the playing field or in the classroom.
They think about how many soccer teams a 9-year-old should play on at any given time to increase her odds of getting a full ride to some top-rated college at some point in the future.
They think about the obstacles that make parenting such an exhausting job. Yes, they think a lot about those.
But they don't spend a lot of time thinking about what makes kids happy.
Once upon a time, childhood was filled with endless days spent outside and very little TV. Imaginations ran wild and kids made their own fun with nothing but a few Matchbox cars and an old cardboard box. They played, they learned, and they socialized. But most of all, they had fun.
Life is far too scripted today. Plans are made. Classes are attended. Craft projects are intended to mimic those found on Pinterest. Gone are the days of free play and creating something out of nothing. Many kids today are simply following a script.
That's not to say that kids aren't happy, because many kids are. Many kids live a life full of adventure and wonder in their own backyards. But many don't. Many simply follow the plan. And that's a shame, because childhood should be all about happiness.
How can we focus on happiness when there is always so much to do? We can start by taking a breath (don't worry, that enormous pile of laundry will wait for you), and then we can take a few cues from happy kids.
7 Secrets of Highly Happy Kids:
1. They eat on time.
I know what you're thinking; that's too simple to be a real parenting strategy. Think again. Have you ever been so hungry that you just wanted to scream? That's how kids feel when they miss a snack or have to wait two hours past their normal mealtime to participate in some super-fancy family dinner.
Eating at regular intervals refuels their growing brains and bodies and keeps hunger under control. When kids are calm and satisfied, they experience greater happiness.
2. They get consistent sleep.
I know, I know, some kids are better sleepers than others. While that's certainly the truth, it isn't an excuse for poor sleep habits. Kids need to learn how to sleep. It's up to us to teach them. When they are completely exhausted, they are cranky. When they are well-rested and ready to embrace the day, they are happier. Make sleep (and a consistent bedtime) a priority.
3. They play without instructions.
Unstructured playtime appears to be a lost art these days. It used to be that kids made their own fun. Today, kids are over-scheduled, dialed in and in awe of toys that essentially do the playing for them. Sure, those garbage trucks with all of the bells and whistles are neat, but be sure to mix in some wooden trucks and building blocks. And, please, take a look at the busy schedule and find some time where your kids can just play each day. Play is good for the soul.
4. They are allowed to express emotions.
Kids yell when they're mad. They cry when they're sad. They might even stomp their feet and run around in circles when they're not sure what to feel. And sometimes, if you're really lucky, they do all of that in the middle of aisle 9 at your friendly neighborhood Target store. Let them. Kids need to express their emotions. While adults know to call a friend to vent when the going gets tough, kids are a bit more primitive. Shushing them and publicly shaming them doesn't help. Let them vent in their own little way and then offer to help. Enduring a public temper tantrum might feel overwhelming in the moment, but it's better than a lifetime of internalizing negative emotions that could lead to eating issues, depression or other emotional problems for your child.
5. They get to make choices.
Kids have very little control over their lives. They are constantly being told where to go, what to do and what to eat. A little bit of control goes a long way toward feeling happy. Let your kids choose their outfits. Allow them to choose the dinner menu one night per week. Ask them what classes they want to take. Give them the opportunity to make some decisions and watch them smile in return.
6. They feel heard.
Kids are intuitive. Even toddlers can tell when parents are tuning them out or answering on autopilot. When kids feel like their parents truly listen to them (about everything from Lightning McQueen's best race to what they learned in school), they feel more connected. This increases their self-confidence and increases their overall happiness. Listen when your children speak. It's the best way to build an open and honest relationship with your child and it makes your child happy.
Are you still with me? Because this last one is important.
7. They experience unconditional love.
Kids mess up. You tell them not to jump off the couch over and over again, but they do it anyway. And then they cry. Because childhood is largely based on trial and error, and sometimes kids just need to take chances. Forgive them. Love them anyway.
When kids know that their parents love and support them no matter what, they are more likely to take healthy risks. They are confident and secure in their decisions. They learn that sometimes people make mistakes, but there is always a chance to right a wrong.
When children know that their parents will always be there for them, for better or for worse, they are happy.
