The immune system - a complex network of organs, proteins, and cells - is our body's main defense against viruses, bacteria, or any other foreign substances. When the immune system is working properly, you remain healthy and there is less chance of becoming ill. However, when the performance of the immune system is compromised, you become vulnerable to infection and a wide range of other health problems. For better immunity, eating healthy and getting proper rest and sleep are absolutely essential. However, apart from a good diet and sound sleep, there are many other small things that can help strengthen your immunity. Here are 10 simple habits that will help to boost your immunity. 1. Maintain Body Hygiene    Good personal hygiene will help keep germs at bay and stop an infection before it has the chance to begin. Furthermore, you'll avoid spreading germs to others. • Wash your hands frequently - especially after touching anyone/anything that may have germs. • Drying your hands thoroughly is as important as washing them, since germs thrive more easily on wet surfaces. • Always wash your wet towels in warm water and replace any damp ones with dry ones often.  • Brush your teeth twice a day and floss once. Replace your toothbrush every three months.  • Use mouthwash to kill any germs inside your mouth. • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. • Don't pick at healing wounds as doing so will allow germs to enter. 2. Drink Plenty of Water No matter how healthy you are eating, it won't help much if you're not drinking enough water. One of the benefits of drinking water is that adequate hydration has a positive effect on the immune system. Water flushes toxins out of the body and ensures that your cells and organs are getting all the oxygen they need to function properly. Another huge benefit of drinking plenty of water is that it helps to keep your digestive system strong, so that you're able to properly digest your food. Adequate nutrition is vital when it comes to maintaining a strong immune system. When drinking water, try to drink clean and filtered water. when traveling, be aware that not all countries follow stringent standards of water safety, and therefore you may significantly increase your risk of contracting a water-borne disease if you drink from the tap. Therefore, while traveling, it is recommended that you only drink bottled water and avoid anything with ice in it. 3. Laugh Out Loud Emotions such as anger and grief can impair health, but laughter does the opposite. Laughter can boost your immunity, which in turn will provide your body with better resistance to illness and disease. A hearty laugh can increase the number of anti-infection antibodies as well as T-cells in the blood. Furthermore, it also increases the number of antibodies in the mucus made in the nose and respiratory passages, the entry point for germs. In addition to this, laughter increases blood circulation, stimulates digestion, reduce muscle tension, and lowers blood pressure. 4. Catch Some Sunrays    Sunlight helps in the production of vitamin D, the vitamin that helps promote protective immunity. If you have a low amount of vitamin D in your blood, you have a higher chance of suffering from infections, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Getting just 10-15 minutes of sun exposure (without sunscreen) each day is enough to produce vitamin D. 5. However, anyone can make a smoothie to ensure their day gets off to a good start. Fruit and vegetables can double your immune system's ability to fight diseases. The immune system requires quite a few nutrients in order to function well. The antioxidants C,E,A and selenium are just a few of the nutrients that you will get from fruit and vegetables. However, cooking fruit and vegetables can destroy their nutritional power. Therefore, it's best to eat vegetables in their raw form, which you can achieve by blending a few fruit or vegetables together to make a healthy smoothie. To make a delicious smoothie, all you need is a food processor or blender, some fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts or seeds, and a few minutes of preparation. 7. Meditate Meditation, in its many different forms, can tweak the immune system in a number of beneficial ways. Meditation creates a positive mental environment for the immune system to flourish. Additionally, it also boosts the antibodies that help make the immune system function more efficiently. furthermore, it helps to reduce anxiety and depression. Aim to practice meditation in a quiet and peaceful place for around 10-15 minutes each day. 8. Take a Daily Walk    Exercise is one of the best ways to promote good immunity. If you do not have the time for intense exercise, a 30 minute walk each day is all that your body needs to function properly. This antibody plays a very important part in the mucous system and helps to keep cells healthy. Moreover, music can have a great effect on mental health conditions, helping you to overcome low moods, anxiety and depression. what's great about this is that you don't even have to take time out of your busy schedule to listen to it. You can enjoy your favorite tunes wherever you go and whatever you're doing - be it driving, running, walking, cleaning, cooking, and even working. 10. Quit the Sugar sugar has no benefits to your health. In fact, sugar dramatically reduces immune function and makes you more susceptible to the common cold, flu, and other infections. Sugar impacts the functioning of white blood cells by competing with vitamin C for space in those cells. The white blood cells need vitamin C to function properly so that they can destroy bacteria and viruses. Therefore, the more sugar you eat, the less vitamin C will be available to the white blood cells, resulting in a weakened immunity. Therefore, you should opt for natural sweeteners instead such as stevia, jaggery and honey. Additional Tips  • Avoid regular tea and coffee and opt for ginger or green tea instead. • Get plenty of sleep and manage your stress levels. • Avoid smoking as well as second-hand smoke. • Eat 1-2 cloves of garlic a day. • Include immune-boosting herbs and spices in your cooking such as rosemary, oregano, and turmeric.

12 Life Lessons My Mother Taught Me My mother was the smartest person I've ever known, not because she had a fancy job or a high level of education, but because of her life experience. When I was a little kid she used to share her thoughts, ideas and life lessons with me. I can honestly say I would not have been the person I am today without her wisdom. In an effort to save her words and pass them on to my children, I have written down her snippets of advice and thoughts on life. A few years after my project was done she passed away in her sleep. Today, I want to share some of her inspiring words with you, I hope they will help you as much as they helped me: Breathe in the future, breathe out the past. No matter where you are or what you’re going through, remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Never expect, assume, or demand anything, just do your best, control what you can, and let go of what you can't. Others should accept you for who you are. Speak your truth even if your voice shakes and you know it won't be well received. You are something beautiful and unique so if you hold that back, the whole world gets a bit less amazing. Walk your path confidently and proudly, don’t expect anyone else to understand your journey. You are not who you used to be, and that’s OK. People go through many ups and downs in life and it changes them, you are no different. Your perspective has changed, your s and diss have changed, your political views may have changed, and that is all normal. When people accuse you of changing just replay by saying:  “Of course I’ve changed. That’s what life is all about. I’m still the same person, just stronger and wiser.” Everything that happens helps you grow. Take everything life throws at you as an opportunity to improve yourself. Whatever happens, hold on to hope. Learn from everything and don’t be afraid to make the same mistake twice, 3 times, or as many times as necessary. Life should be simple. Focus on one thing at a time. You don’t have to do everything, and you don’t need to do something every second of your life. Breathe, be present, and do your best, it's the most anyone, including yourself, could ever hope for. Educate yourself to be happy, not to be rich. There is a big difference between knowing the price of things, and knowing the value of things. In the end, you will come to realize that the best days are the days when you don’t need anything special to make you smile. Always be positive. Your misery or unhappiness is determined not by your circumstances, but by your attitude. Smile at those who want to hurt you, show them that they can’t take away your happiness from you. Your will power is stronger than you know. Pay close attention to those you care about. When people say “I’m okay,” you need to look them in the eyes, hug them tight, and reply, “I know you’re not”. Don’t be too upset if some people only seem to remember you when they need you, only be upset if they are not there when you need them. Learn how to let go of people. Some people are bad for you, some people need to do things on their own, and some people might need you to teach them a hard lesson. It's not easy to say goodbye when you don’t have to but you know you need to, but it's for the benefit of both sides. Sometimes getting results means stripping yourself of people that slow you down. As much as you might love them, some people can make it a lot harder for you to reach your goals. Almost everyone will encounter such a person during their life. As you find out who you are and what you want, you realize that people you’ve known forever don’t see things the way you do. Keep the wonderful memories you had with them, but move on to achieve your happiness. “I can’t believe I did that”, is much better than, “I wish I did that.” Don’t live your life trying to impress others, live it so you'll impress yourself. If you know you will regret not doing something, just do it. It's that simple. If you can't find your happy ending, maybe it’s time to look for a new beginning. We all fail from time to time, it's just a part of life. Don’t be stubborn and just accept it. The strongest people out there are the same people who have fought the toughest battles, lost, and moved on to a new beginning.

9 Things to Avoid on an Empty Stomach!

We are all familiar with the adage - 'You are what you eat'. But what we do before a meal has a great impact on our health. Below, you will discover nine things you cannot do on an empty stomach (no less thantwo hours after your last meal). 

1. Take anti-inflammatories

 

Any drugs like aspirin, paracetamol and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), should not be taken on an empty stomach, doing so will reduce their effectiveness and cause serious health problems - including gastric bleeding. 

Tip: Milk reduces the negative effects of the NSAIDs. So, if it is not available you can wash the drug down with plenty of water.

2. Drink coffee

Decaffeinated coffee stimulates the production of acid that may potentially cause heartburn and other digestive tract issues if drunk on an empty stomach. If you skip breakfast even after coffee may lead to a serotonin deficiency, causing you to feel gloomy for the rest of the day. 

Tip: If you cannot give up the habit of drinking coffee first thing in the morning, take it with some milk or cream. The fat in the milk will help reduce the negative effects. It's also best to choose natural coffee over freeze-dried. 

3. Drink alcohol

 

If you drink alcohol on an empty stomach, the alcohol absorption rate increases. In fact, it is the same as during its intravenous injection. The rapid effect of alcohol on the body has negative consequences for your liver, heart, and kidneys. 

Tip: If you cannot say no to a drink, choose cooled noncarbonated drinks as they are absorbed more slowly. Or better yet, eat a small sandwich, preferably one that has butter.

4. Chew gum

The digestive acid that is produced while you are chewing gum destroys the lining of an empty stomach. Chewing gum too often may also lead to gastritis. Studies have also shown that people who chew gum prefer junk food, as opposed to fruit and vegetables.

Tip: Opt for chewing gum that contains natural sweeteners which are less harmful than those that contain sugar, cyclamate or aspartame. Avoid chewing gum for more than 10 minutes, even on a full stomach. 

5. Go to bed

 

Hunger and low glucose levels prevent us from falling asleep and cause superficial sleep and early awakening. A lack of sleep also increases the level of hunger hormones. This is why we eat more on the following day after skipping dinner.

Tip: It's also not a good idea to eat too much before you sleep. The best solution is dairy products because they contain magnesium and calcium. 

6. Intense training

Some people think that exercising on an empty stomach burns more calories, when in fact, it doesn't influence fat loss. Muscle loss, on the other hand, is real. The exercise intensity is also reduced since the body lacks energy.

Tip: Replace intense training with aerobic exercise. If you have digestive issues, have a snack before any type of exercise because physical activity induces production of gastric juice, which is harmful to an empty stomach. 

7. Shopping

 

Being hungry makes us buy more food than we actually need. An empty stomach makes us more prone to want to buy things, even in stores which don't serve food. In fact, research shows that the internal message of 'I want food' gets pared down to 'I want' causing a famished person to obey that message by buying things. 

Tip: A shopping list made in advance helps, as does paying with cash which can also help you save money. Research also shows that people tend to spend less when they pay with cash instead of a credit card. 

8. Drink citrus juice

The acid and tough fibers in citrus fruits irritate your empty stomach, this is especially dangerous if you have gastritis or you are at risk of developing it. 

Tip: If you suffer from hyperacidity, freshly squeezed citrus juice will bring nothing but benefits if diluted in water.

9. Arguing

 

Research has shown that hunger makes you less composed. This happens because self-control requires energy, which is in short supply when the stomach is empty. 

Tip: If you don't have time to eat before a discussion, drink something warm, as this will make the conversation more amicable.
